Never ever...
I'll never gonna pay any credit card annual fees again...ever!
This has been a personal promise I could not break. It all started about a year ago when I diligently paid my Citibank Visa card dues including the annual fee. Of course, I asked for the fee to be waived, as any sensible person would do. But the Citiphone officer (phony bastards!) I talked to informed me that there were no automatic waiver for the annual fee. And so I paid in full and almost forgot about it, just to found out later that the same annual fee was waived for someone I knew.
How freaking retarded was that!!
To think that I am constantly paying all my dues on time, availed of their balance transfer programs and installments and never ever defaulted nor thinking of running away from my debts. I'm just a small fry. I knew that. I'm am not a high-networth individual and never will be in 5 years time (the universe is listening, you know. ). So in Citibank's perspective, I am just one of the expendables. If they lost me, I may never create a dent to their vast portfolio.
And now, the time of the year has come when that dreadful figures in my statement showed itself once again. Again, I called their hotline (995-9999) and asked for the fee to be waived. Again I'm declined with flying colors. And so it has to happen. I stand to my belief that annual fee is a piece of shit that Citibank wants you to eat. They in turn still would never waive the damn thing. So there's no left to do but to cancel my Visa card.
And if it was only possible I would have snipped my card in front of them just to emphasize my point. But I contented myself by just silently snipping the thing in the comfort of my own room. I would willingly give up my credit limits and "perks". I will never apply for and swipe a Citibank card again and silently hoping that some thousands of disgruntled small fries and expendable clients like me would do the same.
Five years with Citibank was already a long time I guess. I admit it was a useful tool and it helped me in quite a few crisis I met along the way. But that doesn't earned it the right to control me or anybody's life. For all I know, they already earned a lot in the fees and charges they collected from me. Not to mention the bailouts from the governments and such.
For the last time, I'm not gonna pay any card annual fee ever again.
