The Reds are coming.

It's been one hell of a ride this week. And this involves a lot of downhill slides. I was a bit apprehensive most of the time as I watched helplessly my issues taking nosedive plunge. And I know for sure (at least in theory), this is just the tip of an iceberg as they say.

The PSE has been taking a break from its almost relentless climb. Properties and Mining took the most beating. The bad thing perhaps is that I'm out of cash when all of the indicators were shouting a buy.

I dropped VLL on Monday at a very marginal gain and loaded on Manila Mining (MAB) instead. This is based on speculation  that mining will once again take off another winning high. As of record time,  it was really not happening. I hold on to FLI and MEGW1 because I still believe they have still more room for growth and because selling at a huge loss is not much of a great idea really.

It's worth mentioning that I already applied to redeem my mutual fund at around 24% gain. I was suppose to use this to fund my AFPSLAI but the check will arrive after the allotted placement period. So most probably I'll fund my Citisec account for a standby cash for the next buy season.

Philippine UITF Performance 2016

The Philippine Stock Exchange ended the previous year at -1.6% - one of the tripartite of the Asian Market losers of 2016, just behind China and Malaysia. This of course trickled down to the country's Mutual Funds (MF) and Unit Investment Trust Funds (UITF) which generally settled in the negative territories. There were a few exceptions however with the top 8 Equity UITFs defying the market downturn (5  for Balanced Fund). I was particularly impressed with BDO's Dividend Fund registering an 8.10% increase. In fact 3 funds from BDO booked positive returns. The funds however were not quite as impressive at the end of the prior year. BDO's Sustainable Dividend Fund and Focused Equity Fund ranked 26th (-15.74%) and 27th (-18.11%) respectively that year (ESG Equity Fund performance was not available for 2015). Geek Wishlist: External GPU

I just got back from Auckland TechXpo where some tech companies showcase their products. Aside from the usual super-rigs, this got my attention. That's the Omen Accelerator - the newest external GPU enclosure from HP which will be released in NZ in September. I wanted to play my PC games again since I left my decent rig back home. I cannot bring my bulky rig across the Pacific Ocean without breaking the bank. Also, having no permanent address really doesn't help in assembling a super rig once again. This is the closest I could get to a decent gaming experience. I just hope that my Dell XPS 9550 would support this setup. I would wait for the reviews to come in and see if it's worth the price.

Insider Trading Alive and Well?

Is FGEN finally now on a reversal after a 2-year downtrend? Probably. It was up by 15% in the last two trading days of the past week. And as of this writing, it is already up by another 7%. Twin glorious white candles of the past week I knew there's something boiling. Then boom! Alert Message from COL Financial Question remains: Where do you draw a line between Insider Trading and trading based on pure public knowledge? That's rhetorical by the way and I'm not in any way complaining. I got like 14% FGEN in my portfolio I bought near the bottom. So this is pretty much a happy surprise for me.
